This Just In: Newsprint Nails
I finally got around to trying newsprint nails. I like how they came out and they were relatively easy to do. In fact, the only difficult part was waiting for the base coat to dry completely before applying the paper. Here’s how it works:
- Paint your nails a light neutral color. I went with China Glaze Pelican Gray but some folks go with white for a cleaner contrast.
- When your nails are completely 100% dry, pour some rubbing alcohol into a small dish and cut up a piece of newspaper. Read the story first to make sure you’re okay with the story. I had a hard politics section so it was hard not to end up with a war story on my fingernails.
- Dip one fingernail into the alcohol and apply a piece of newspaper. Don’t move that newspaper once it’s pressed down or it will smudge. Apply an alcohol soaked cotton ball or pad and hold it in place. Count to 60.
- Remove the pad, then lift the paper in one clean movement. You should have the reverse print of the lettering on your nail. Give it a couple of minutes to dry, then gently apply a clear topcoat.
Easy! I did end up with a klutzy smudge on my left hand but that was just because I’m left handed and always end up bumping it before it’s completely dry. It’s the curse of my dominant hand.
